Q

How do you conduct a pump test?

A

Select a scale and after the display shows a number, block the probe tip to display “bloc”

Q

How do you conduct a zero test?

A

If the detector does not read zero for gas and CO and 21% for oxygen in clean air, use “AUTO ZERO” and wait for “END” before using it.

Warning: on a gas call, AUTO ZERO outdoor, never indoors

Q

How do you conduct a Bump Gas Test?

A

Sample “2 in 1” bump gas on the GAS scale for about 10 sec. The display should show more than zero. Repeat with CO scale.

Warning: If the detector does not respond, check operation and recalibrate.

Q

While operating the GAS RANGER how do you detect CO in air?

A

Select PPM CO and, if necessary, AUTO ZERO. Sample location for at least 30 sec. If the air has “chemical” odors, use the flue gas probe and filter to get a better reading.

16
Q

How do you auto calibrate the GAS RANGER?

A

First Auto Zero in clean air. After “END”, block probe to display “bloc”. Unblock to display “go” and sample calibration gas until “CAL” appears on the display.

17
Q

What is the sample calibration gas made of?

A

2.5% methane, 100ppm CO

18
Q

Troubleshooting the GAS RANGER- if the problem is the display shows blank/“Lo” what’s the probable cause?

What action should be taken?

A

Prob cause-Batt are low/ones bad/ improperly inserted

Action- reinsert batteries with flat end first or replace them

19
Q

Troubleshooting the GAS RANGER- if the problem is the display shows “bloc”

what’s the probable cause?

What action should be taken?

A

Prob cause- intake is blocked

Action- drain the probe and, if necessary, replace water block filter

20
Q

Troubleshooting the GAS RANGER- if the problem is the display does NOT show “bloc” when the tip is blocked

what’s the probable cause?

What action should be taken?

A

Prob cause- a leak between the probe tip and the pump, or the pump is dirty

Action- disconnect the hose and block intake. If “bloc” still does not appear, repair instrument.

21
Q

Troubleshooting the GAS RANGER- if the problem is the display shows “nogo” on auto zero

what’s the probable cause?

What action should be taken?

A

Prob cause- Gas/CO is present or the zero of the sensor has drifted.

Action- repeat in clean air after detector purge or Course zero in clean air (hold down RESET and switch out of and back into AUTO ZERO)

22
Q

Troubleshooting the GAS RANGER- if the problem is the display shows “Fail”

what’s the probable cause?

What action should be taken?

A

Prob cause- a sensor (methane or oxygen) has failed

Action- replace sensors
