What is optic neuritis?
Inflammation of the optic nerve causes pain and loss of vision.
(50% go on to develop MS within 10 years)
What is transverse myelitis?
Inflammation of the spinal cord.
What is the cause of the following symptoms?
- tingly numbness in both feet that gradually ascends to level around chest.
- unsteady walking
- fatigue easily
Transverse myelitis
What are the 2 conditions leading up to MS that show clinicially definite MS?
Optic Neuritis and Transverse Myelitis at DIFFERENT times.
Optic neuritis = inflammation of optic nerve causing pain and vision loss.
Transverse myelitis - inflammation of the spinal cord causing tingling / numbness in feet.
What occurrences of Tranverse myelitis and optic neuritis would not classify as definite MS?
1) Myelitis and optic neuritis at the same time.
- Recurrent Myelitis or Optic neuritis
What is MS?
Autoimmune Inflammatory reaction in the CNS that causes loss of myelin and slowing of nerve conduction.
