What are the features of the T21?
Distinctive facial features including large tongue
Intellectual disability is common
50% have congenital cardiac problems, including AVSD
Low tone, develop at a different pace (e.g. slow walk)
Feeding issues (narrower airways)
Behavioural issues
Sleep apnoea
Hypothyroidism
Hirschsprungs disease, duodenal atresia
Diabetes, coeliac, cataracts, predisposition to leaukemia, atlanto-axial instability
Low tone is muscles that are floppy or hypotonia.
Role of a Speech and Language Therapist?
Speech and language therapy is concerned with the management of disorders of speech, language, communication and swallowing in children and adults.
They give help and support to the family and kids not to FIX it.

what is the cerebral palsy?

A group of disorders of the development of movement and posture that are attributed to non progressive disturbances in the developing foetal or infant brain.
Often accompanied by disturbances of sensation, cognition, communication, behaviour and seizures
It is a MOTOR problem
