Red Flags for Development? (IMPO)
Asymmetry of movement, up/low tone
Not reaching for objects by 6 months/persistent primitive reflexes by 6 months
Unable to sit unsupported by 12 months
Unable to walk by 18 months → check CK (creatine kinase which is for muscle weakness)
No speech/not pointing by 18 months
Concerns re vision or hearing at any age (squint)
Loss of skills at any age
What is Global Developmental Delay (GDD)
- when a child takes longer to reach certain development milestones than other children their age.
- Significant delay at least in 2 areas
gross/fine motor, speech/language,
cognition, social/personal, ADL - Termed Learning or intellectual disability in school age
- Investigations vary widely between centres
