Vague pain in groin area
Hx of increase activity prior to pain onset
antalgic gait
Positive Log Roll
Stress fracture of the femoral neck
MEDEVAC
Pain over muscle
Exacerbated by activity
mild ecchymosis or edema
4/5 strength
Positive Thomas test
Hip Strain
Sudden onset of thigh pain during running / rapid moment /
a “POP” may been heard on onset
Thigh Strain
Pain over the greater trochanter
pain radiates towards the ankle
pain made worse when moving from sitting to standing
pain decreased once warmed up
unable to lie on affected side
Trochanteric Bursitis
sudden pain and giving way of the knee, after a rotational or herperflextion of knee
audible “POP”
unable to stand after injury because of pain and instability
Positive Lachman test
Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear
Dash board injury during a MVA
hypeflextion injury
fall onto a flexed knee with the foot in planter flexion
Positive Posterior Drawer test
Positive Sag Test
Posterior cruciate ligament tear
lateral medical force trauma to the knee
local ecchymosis and small effusion development within 24-48hrs
positive valgus or varus stress test
Collateral ligaments
(MCL / LCL)
pain with activity or direct pressure around the knee
focal to the anterior later aspect of the knee that worsens with activity especially down hill.
discomfort or complete resolution at rest
not reported by inactive people
IT Band syndrome
MOI twisting motion
Knee pain is described as locking catching or popping
pain with twisting and squatting
pain over the medial lateral joint lines
Meniscal tear
patients who go “too much, too fast, too soon”
concentrated anterior knee pain
exacerbated by prolonged sitting squatting or kneeling
Quadriceps / patellar tendinitis
“Jumpers Knee”
Diffused aching anterior knee pain
Exacerbated by prolonged sitting (theater sign), climbing stairs, jumping, or squatting
No preexisting trauma, No swelling
Risk factors:
-Fitness level upon entry to service
-prior exercise behavior
-BMI over 25
-training load
