MSK #4- Capsular Patterns Flashcards
Temporomandibular
Limited mouth opening
Upper cervical spine (occiput-C2)- occipitoatlantal joint
forward flexion limited > extension
Upper cervical spine- Atlantoatlantal joint
limitation with rotation
Lower cervical spine (C3-T2)
Limitation of all motions except flexion (side bending and rotation equally limited and both greater than extension
Glenohumeral
ER>ABD>IR
Sternoclavicular
Full elevation limited; pain at extreme ROM
Acomioclavicular
Full elevation limited; pain at extreme ROM
Humeroulnar
Loss of flexion moreso than extension
Humeroradial
Loss of flexion moreso than extension
Proximal & Distal radioulnar
Pronaation = supination
Wrist
Flexion = extension
Midcarpal
Limitation: equal in all directions
Trapeziometacarpal
Abduction moreso than extension
CMC 11-V
Equally restricted all directions
Upper extremety digits
flexion > extension
Thoracic Spine
Side bending and rotation > extension > flexion
Lumbar spine
Marked and equal limitation of side bending and rotation; loss of extension > flexion
Sacroiliac, symphasis pubis, sacrococcygeal
Pain when joints are stressed
Hip
Limited flexion / IR; some limitation of abduction; no or little limitation of adduction and ER
Knee
Flexion grossly limited; slight limitation of extension
Talofibular (proximal & distal)
Pain when joint is stressed
Talocrural
PF loss > DF
Talocalcaneal (subtalar)
Increasing limitation of varus; joint fixed in valgus (inversion > eversion)
Midtarsal
Supination > pronation (limited DF, PF, ADD and medial rotation)
First MTP
Marked limitation of extension; slight limitation of flexion
Metatarsophalangeal (11-V)
Variable; tend towards flexion restrictions
Interphalangeal
Tend towards extension restrictions
Manual grading of accessory joint motion
Assessed grade of MVMT Classification of Joint
- 0 Ankylosed
- 1 Considerable hypomobility
- 2 Slight hypomobility
- 3 Normal
- 4 Slight hypermobility
- 5 Considerable hypermobility
- 6 Unstable
