MPMs Flashcards
How far below your starting height should you nominate your base?
3000-4000ft
What is the Pitch Back?
A defensive turn flown against a hostile that is positioned in your 6 o’clock, at range.
Aim is to turn quickly enough to be able to merge with the hostile threat in a more favourable position.
How is the pitch back flown?
As an MPRT with entry from approx. 270 KIAS.
As the speed bleeds back anticipate 210 KIAS, relax the BP (noting the rolling g limit of +4.7g), roll the wings level, lookout above, maintain max power and then enter the combat loop.
How is the combat loop flown?
Pull up for a loop from approx. 210 KIAS, MAX power.
Establish 4g/16 units AoA as quickly as possible.
Remainder of the loop is flown at 16 units until 4g can be re-established as the aircraft accelerates in the latter stages of the loop.
No requirement to exit the combat loop at the same height as entry.
Key is to maintain 16 units AoA.
How do you transition from the combat loop to the MPRT rate to base?
On exit from the combat loop you should be close to the stabilised speed for an MPRT (210 KIAS).
Lookout below and immediately set up the correct MPRT entry for your speed (high, stabilised or near, or below).
Continue the turn, monitoring your height until you approach your previously nominated base height.
Anticipate by approx. 300ft to level and convert to a max rate turn at base height. (2-2.5g, 16 units AoA, MAX power, 150-160 KIAS, stick shaker).
