IP-Tgt Flashcards
What should you do upon leaving the IP for the TGT?
Complete the final T of the TSAT checks
Un-designate the IP, confirm FMS is steering to the TGT, re-designate the TGT
What checks must you complete when approaching the IP?
Pre-IP TSA
Designate the WPT
Assess the accuracy of the ‘kit position’ relative to the IP. Wait until the designate diamond is 3 deg. below the horizon or greater
How should you ‘walk’ your eyes on to the target?
Use big to small features
This confirms the DESIG diamond with the ground features, ensuring the attack is against the ‘real’ feature, and not a ‘kit position’ which may be subject to slight errors
What should you do post attack/overfly of the target?
Once established on next heading, continue the lookout + scan
Note the FUEL on tgt overfly to calculate combat and relate to req. amount for a re-attack.
Relate this to your JOKER plan for that TGT (combat fuel calc).
How should you re-attack a target?
Leave the target designated (ensures the UP WPT remains displayed on the TSD)
Fly 2 x 90 deg. turns, with good lookout in between, in a pre-briefed direction post target to result in a ‘downwind leg’. Check for any avoids.
Visually ID the IP.
Allow a sensible overfly of the IP ‘downwind’ (10-20 secs), before flying 2 x 90 deg. turns on to the LOA approaching the IP.
Reset the clock and restart it at the IP
Note - Careful of traffic behind, be aware of anyone following + geographic limits for a re-attack.
During a re-attack, if the target is accidentally undesignated then the TGT and IP waypoints will be ‘eaten up’. What should you do in this scenario?
Ease away from the ground to buy some working room
Re-load the route from the FMS to regenerate the TGT and IP wpts.
Loading the NAV route in ROUTE 2 in the FMS will simplify this process should it be required.
Now fly to the IP and continue as per IP-Tgt run.
