Q

After take off and levelling at 500ft for a LL cct, approx. what power should you set when turning on to the downwind?

A

Approx. 35%

Bring this back to 28% as you roll out to bring speed back for checks.

Q

How will your spacing appear during a LL CCT?

A

You will be flying the same ground track as a normal cct, but you will appear wider due to the lower height.

The wingtip should be tracking just outside the nearest edge of the runway.

Q

Once you have configured and captured 120 KIAS on the d/w of a LL CCT, how should you start the final turn?

A

Turn in at the same reference (same AoB limits and wind adjustments apply), taking Land flap and setting approx. 45% TQ to maintain <150KIAS but safe speed.

Adjust power to maintain 10.5 AoA as req.

Q

How do you fly the latter part of the final turn for a LL CCT?

A

Just after half way, set 18% (with Land flap, TQ as req. for other flap settings), intercept as normal with 7 deg. ND, then adjusting to 3 deg. GP.

Normal final

Q

From what speed is the VRIAB flown?

Q

What height do you descend to for a VRIAB?

A

500ft (or your authorised break height, whichever is higher)

Except rwy 31 - 800ft due to Rhoseneigr

Q

What must you do when descending from initial for a VRIAB?

A

Visually locate all circuit traffic

Think wind

9
Q

How should you select your break point?

A

Based upon the other position of circuit traffic - do NOT cut in front of other traffic it there’s a risk it will have to go around as a result/will result in LOSS.

To provide sufficient time for d/w checks (think of the effect of wind down the runway

As req. within a formation

Q

Approximately what NU (WL) should you pull to achieve on a VRIAB?

A

5 deg.

This will gain approx. 500ft throughout the turn.

If breaking from 800ft (31R), 2 deg. NU WL will be sufficient as only 200ft needs to be gained throughout the turn. Will need slightly more AoB.

Q

How should you anticipate the level off of a VRIAB?

A

Anticipate by approx. 100ft.

Increase the AoB to bring the FPM to the level attitude. A

Adjust the bank and back pressure to achieve the usual downwind position.

Q

On a VRIAB, at what point should you select speedbrake IN?

A

At approx. 160 KIAS

Speedbrake in and bring on power by feel (at around 150 KIAS) to set approx. 28% to capture mid 140s.
