motor control Flashcards
the ability to regulate of direct the mechanisms essential to movement
motor control
structural connections (networks) of neuronal connection in brain and spinal cord and to muscle
developmental defined movement
these can be though of as skills that are mastered after a lot of practice and experience
movement that is learned
movement emerges from the interaction of three factors:
the individual
the task
the environment
the activity selected
action
peripheral and higher level processing that provide information about the movement
perception
critical for the meaning and intention of movements
cognition
those parts of the environment that directly influence the movement
regulatory features
those parts of the environment that can shape a movement but may have no influence on the movement (busy, loud)
non regulatory features
task classification
discrete
serial
continuous
has a defined beginning and end
discrete
is series of discrete movements performed in order
serial
task are longer and require frequent update and evaluation of performance
continuous
are in changing environment
open task
are in predictable environments
closed task
