Motivation and self leadership Flashcards
Whats motivation?
cognitivedecision-makingprocessthroughwhichgoal-directedbehaviorisinitiated,energized,directedandmaintained
Factors of motivation(drives/needs)?
Drives/needs →innate, biological determinants of behavior, activated by deprivation. Ex., need for oxygen, water, food, shelter
Factors of motivation(motive/goal/desires)
socially acquired determinants of behavior activated by a desire for fulfilment
What are the factors of motivation?
Internal:
-basic physicological needs/drives: autonomy,relatedness,competence.
- physiological needs/drives: hunger, thirst, sleep.
External: socially adquired, afillitiation, status
Whats the motivation within a company?
a processthat takes into account employee’s intensity, direction, and persistenceof effort toward attaining organizationalgoal
Hierarchy of needs theory?
top of the pyramid.1.self actualization
2.self esteem
3.love and belonging
4.safety and security
5.phsyological needs
Self determination theory?
According to SDT, we all have 3 innate psychological (cognitive) needs:
*autonomy
*competence
*relatedness
When three needs are satisfied, motivation, work performance and wellness increase. All three needs are necessaryfor intrinsicmotivation to develop
Expectancy theory?
argues that individual motivation depends on the expectancythat effort will lead to good performance, instrumentalityof performance in producing valued outcomes, and the valenceof outcomes
What are the 3 expectancy theories?
Expectancy→ perceived probability that effort will result in good
performanceInstrumentality → perceived probability that good performance will lead to valued outcome
Valence → perceived value of preference for particular positive, negative, or neutral outcome
Two factors theory?
Hertzber suggested using vertical loading factors (motivator factors)to achieve job enrichment: increase accountability, provide feedback, define new tasks, add more authority
