The energisation and direction of behaviour

Behaviourism - humans are driven by need (food water)

What is the personality or trait approach?
Motivation is determined by relatively stable traits that are parts of personality

What is the social-cognitive theory of motivation?
Humans are active and purposive, they are driven by thoughts and feelings. The social environment effects this

What is motivation? 1985
Motivation is fundamental to all human endeavours as it is what energises, directs and maintains behaviour
What is the self-determination theory?
Doing the exercise or activity to gain feelings of self worth, benefits (social, financial etc) and fulfilling psychological need
