What types of motivation are there?
A
4 types
- Intrinsic motivation: motivation from within.
- Extrinsic motivation: motivation from an outside source
- Tangible rewards: rewards that can be touched or held, physical.
- Intangible rewards: non physical rewards.

What are the extrinsic motives?
A
- Attract to the activity and provide early motivation.
- If used too much it may undermine the value of the activity and intrinsic motivation, therefore players compete for just the reward.
- Extrinsic rewards may put pressure on players to achieve and if they dont get the reward, motivation can be lost.
- Same pressure may also promote cheating.

What are the intrinsic motives?
A
- Intrinsic rewards are more effective, stronger and long-lasting, they give more satisfaction and pride and a sense of control.

How can you motivate?
A
- Offering rewards and incentives early on.
- Making it fun and enjoyable.
- Pointing out health benefits.
- Pointing out role models.
- Setting achievable goals.
- Using feedback to inspire and correct errors.

What methods can be used by coaches to motivate performers?
A
- Rewards, praise and positive reinforcement.
- Make it fun and enjoyable.
- Make sure the performer succeeds.
- Point out the benefits of exercise.
- Negative reinforcement (for experts).
- Set attainable goals.
- Point out role models.
