Q
Goals.
A
- Should include both process and performance goals.
- Performers should focus on performance goals to maintain motivation looking at improvement and technique.
- Soley outcome based goals might damage motivation if task is seen as unachievable
- Outcome goals focus on gaining prizes and providing a basis for comparison, they cause more stress
- Short term goals provide a means for reassurance.

Q
What are the prinicples of goal setting?
A
- Specific: clear and concise, perhaps using data - should allow specific improvements to be made.
- Measurable: using assessment to obtain data allows comparison and progress to be identified
- Achievable: performer should be able to reach their goal. Motivation is maintained
- Realistic: goals need to be reachable to maintain motivation.
- Time bound: short and long term goals need to be identified so all concerned have a deadline to keep to.
- Evaluate: performer and coach should evaluate how goal was achieved - what worked well and what didnt work.
- Re - do: if goal wasnt achieved or is slow it can be repeated, or the target altered if needs be.
