When did Moses re-appear on the farm?
He re-appeared after the Battle of the windmill when the animals were starving and struggling to re-build the windmill again
Significance of when Moses re-appears on the farm-
This shows the power of religion as a tool used in the hands of corrupt leaders to continue exploiting people by giving them hope of a better life after death and, therefore, encouraging them to accept the hardships given to them by dictators.
It mirrors Stalin allowing Russian Orthodox churches to re-open when the Soviet Union was significantly suffering in order to boost patriotism and give people hope
Moses receives an “allowance of a gill of beer a day” from the pigs
Orwell is allegorically representing the role of the Russian Orthodox Church as workers for the corrupt communist government under Stalin- They were paid to prevent people from rebelling and served as agents for the corrupt rule in Russia
“allowance…
…of a gill of beer a day”
