Mollie Flashcards
“foolish pretty white mare”
ADJECTIVES with connotations of a worldly and materialistic character - reflection of bourgeois middle class who were accustomed to luxury
Role
Allegory for Russian bourgeois middle class
“Will there be sugar after the rebellion?”
NAIVE AND FOOLISH QUESTION to demonstrate to the reader how her priorities are not to do with the revolution- Middle class were not completely opposed to the revolution but didn’t want to give up the luxuries they had under the Tsar under egalitarian socialist principles.
“agreed but did not sound very convinced”
When Snowball told her liberty was worth more than ribbons- represents lack of commitment from middle classes as they valued they’re luxuries more than freedom from tsaric rule
“All animals should go naked”
Reply she got when she asked about ribbons- symbolises how socialism would take away middle class priviledges and metaphorically strip them “naked”
“Her coat was newly clipped”
This is Mollie’s state after she betrays Animalsim and leaves the farm to live under human rule again.- Shows how bourgeois class who left were possibly wiser as they ended up living better than those who stayed.
