What are the indications of Morphine?
A
- Pain relief
- Sedation to maintain intubation
- Sedation to facilitate intubation (where fentanyl not appropriate for Rapid Sequence Induction)

What are the contraindications of Morphine?
A
- History of hypersensitivity
- Renal impairment/failure
- Late seconds stage labour

What are some precautions of Morphine?
A
- Elderly/frail Pts
- Respiratory depression
- Current asthma
- Hypotension
- Respiratory tract burns
- Known addiction to opioids
- Acute alcoholism
- Pts on monamine oxidase inhibitors (depression)

What are some side effects of Morphine?
A
- Drowsiness
- Respiratory depression
- Euphoria
- Nausea/vomiting
- Addiction
- Pin point pupils
- Hypotension
- Bradycardia

What are the dosages of Morphine?
A
- 5mg at 5min intervals. Consult after 20mg IV
- 10mg (repeat 5mg once after 15min) IM
- E/F/<60kg 0.1mg/kg IM

What is the dilution of Morphine?
A
- Dilute Morphine 10mg/1mL to 10mL with 9mL NS

IV O - 2-5min P - 10min D - 60-120min IM O - 10-30min P - 30-60 D - 60-120min
