Monoclonal Antibodies Flashcards

1
Q

Describe how monoclonal antibodies are produced

A
  1. A mouse is injected with an antigen🐁
  2. This is detected by the immune system and stimulate B lymphoctes to prouce the specific antibodies
  3. The lymphocyte are taken out of the mouse and fused with tumour cells to prodcue hybridoma cells- the hybridoma cells can produce the specific antibodies and divide my mitosis
  4. Then a single hybridoma is selected and allowed to divide by mitosis to produce clones of identical hybridoma cells
  5. The hybridoma all produce identical and specific antibodies called monoclonal antibodies
  6. The monoclonal antibodies are then collected and purified
