Monoclonal Antibodies Flashcards
1
Q
Describe how monoclonal antibodies are produced
A
- A mouse is injected with an antigen🐁
- This is detected by the immune system and stimulate B lymphoctes to prouce the specific antibodies
- The lymphocyte are taken out of the mouse and fused with tumour cells to prodcue hybridoma cells- the hybridoma cells can produce the specific antibodies and divide my mitosis
- Then a single hybridoma is selected and allowed to divide by mitosis to produce clones of identical hybridoma cells
- The hybridoma all produce identical and specific antibodies called monoclonal antibodies
- The monoclonal antibodies are then collected and purified
