Monitoring Flashcards
What does CGM monitor?
Interstitial glucose
What are glucose targets for adults before meals? (ADA)
80-130 mg/dL
What are glucose targets for adults 1-2 hours after meals? (ADA)
<180 mg/dl
What are A1c goals for adults? (ADA)
<7% in general, as close to 6.5% as possible without hypoglycemia, 8.0% for multiple comorbidites
What are glucose targets for adults before meals? (AACE)
< 110 mg/dL
What are glucose targets for adults 2 hours after meals? (AACE)
<140 mg/dL
What are A1c targets for adults? (AACE)
<6.5%
What is premeal
Glucose targets for children of all ages?
90-130 mg/dL
What is bedtime/overnight glucose target for children of all ages?
90-150 mg/dL
What is the wear time for a CGM?
70% of the time for at least 2 weeks
What is time in range?
% of time glucose levels are between 70-180 mg/dL
**it is recommended that 70% TIR be the goal
for most ppl
What is glucose variability?
Statistical measure to describe swings between high and low
What is glucose management indicator?
Suggests what A1c may be based on current glucose pattern
What is level 1 and 2 hypoglycemia?
Level one: 54-69 mg/dL(goal: <4%)
Level two: < 54 mg/dL (goal: <1%)
In CGM, what % of glucose variability is considered stable?
<36%
What is the standard for how often a person should monitor his blood glucose?
There is no standard guidelines for how often a person should monitor their blood glucose
What does MPT mean?
Mobile prescription therapy; can provide real time guidance that typical apps are not allowed to do
How often are CGM sensors changed?
Every 7-14 days
What may be the reason for mismatch between A1c and home monitoring numbers?
The individual may not be monitoring at the right time
What is the equation for eAG?
28.7 x A1c - 46.7 = eAG
What test reflects overall glucose test over the past 2-3 weeks?
Fructosamine; useful when it is not practical to wait 2-3 months for an A1c test, such as in pregnancy
What is the 1, 5 anhydroglucitrol test?
Measure a specific sugar (1,5 AG) in the blood. Detects if blood glucose spikes after meals over a period of 2 weeks. Also known as glycomark test
What factors may raise blood glucose?
Not enough insulin/oral med, other meds, physical activity, stress (dehydration, etc), CHO (more than usual)
What factors may lower BG?
Too much insulin/oral meds, physical activity,
