Q
give an overveiw ofthe henry molaison case study
A
henry is 27, he underwent a brain surgery to remove seizures that impacted his ability to work ( he was having about 10 per day). he agreed to a surgery that removed a part of his brain that scirntists beleived were causing sezuires (hippocampus). this was a partial labotomy that removed a small section of the brain tissue from both sides of his brain of the hippocampus. The surgery was innitially a success, the seizures almost completely stopped, however soon after they found out he wasnt able to form new memories.
2
Q
what are the key findings of the case study
A
- memory is not on unitary structure
- evidence to show the STM and LTM were distinct stores, as he was able to hold information for breif periods of time in STM but was unable to move this information into LTM.
- the hippocampus hads an important role in memory formation, specifically encoding or consolidation.
- if the hippocamous is damaged or removed this will lead to severe impacts on our memory
