1
Q

what is working memory

A

working memory is a newer understanding of STM that involves conscious, active processing of incoming auditory and visual, spatial information, and/or information retrieved from LMT.

Q

define central executive

A

The central executive is the main part of working memory. it is responsible for attention and coordinates the slave systems ( phonological loop and visuo-spatial sketchpad)

Q

define phonological loop

A

The phonological loop is the part of working memory that deals with spoken and written speech. it has two parts
1. phonological store - hold information in a speech form for 1-2 seconds.
2. articulatory control process - rehearses information from the phonological store.

6
Q

define episodic buffer

A

the episodic buffer acts as a back-up store which communicates with both long term memory and the other components of working memory.
