Moles Flashcards
What is the Mr
The relative formula mass is obtained by adding up the relative atomic mass of all the atoms in the formula
e.g Mg = 24
How big is a mole
6 x 10 to the 23
If we have only one mole of any element, then we know the mass we have is the……..mass of that element
Relative atomic
e.g Mr Carbon = 12, 1 mole of carbon = 12
What equation links mass, moles and relative formula mass
Mass = moles x relative formula mass
How would you find the amount of moles if yu have the mass and relative formula mass
Moles = mass ÷ relative formula mass
How would you find the relative formula mass if you had the mass and the amount of moles
Relative formula mass = mass ÷ moles
What is the equation that links percentage yield, actual mass of products and theoretical mass of product
Percentage yield = actual mass of product ÷ theoretical mass of product
Give some reasons on why reactions don’t give a 100% yield
Solids might get lost due to dust or smoke
Solutions or solids might be left in apparatus as they are poured form one piece to another
Liquids might evaporate
The chemicals might not react completely yet
The reaction might be reversible and in dynamic equilibrium
What does 1dm3 =
1000cm3
What equation gives you the volume from the amount of moles
Volume = Amount (moles) x 24,000
