Module 7: Teaching The Receptive Skills Flashcards
What are the four language skills? which two language skills are the receptive skills? and which two language skills are the productive skills?
And listening and reading, are the receptive skills and speaking and writing are the productive skills
What are the two types of reading that are explicitly taught in the classroom? Define each
Extensive reading is the broad general reading. The teacher should encourage their students to do independent reading. Newspapers, special interest, magazines, and self-selected articles andbooks are examples of extensive reading. You try to get the overall flow in main ideas of the material.
On the other hand, intensive reading is typically done in small sections or sentences. students need to understand information or language in detail. An intensive reading activity might be to study some personalized written feedback you gave your students on an assignment they submitted, or to focus on the use of adverbs in a paragraph from a popular novel.
What should students read?
Many educators, believe that authentic materials are preferable, because that is what students will be reading in the real world. For beginners, however, this may be a difficult turn off.
What is an effective approach to teach reading comprehension?
Focus on subskills, such as reading for gist (skimming) or reading for details (scanning) or determining the writers purpose. Once students have shown, they understand the text you can use it as a basis for lessons and vocabulary, or grammar, or for speaking, or writing activities.
Why do we teach reading in the EFLESL classroom?
We teach reading because students need it for their - for sure, study purposes, and for pleasure. reading provides models of correct grammar usage.it also offer richer vocabulary opportunities.
Reading can introduce interesting topics into class, stimulate discussion, excite imaginative responses and be the catalyst for fascinating class lessons! Finally, reading can be easily integrated while working with the other language skills and can be a springboard to other language study.
