define auxiliary verb
Also called helping verbs a verb that adds functional or grammatical meaning to the main verb in a clause, auxiliaries communicate tense ask that modality or voice to the meaning of the main verb example have in the sentence. Define clause
A group of words with the subject/verb component, it can communicate a complete thought, making it an independent clause, which can stand alone as a sentence a clause can also be a dependent clause, which must pair with an independent clause or sentence, even if it contains a subject/verb component.
Define dynamic verb
A verb that communicates, an action or movement an example is run, take, eat, ride.
Define gerund
A gerund is a verb that acts as a noun when it is the ING form running, can act as a noun, when a noun position in a sentence, such as an subject or object position for example, — running, is my favorite form of exercise.
Define infinitive
The basic dictionary form of the verb when the verb is not functioning as the main verb in a sentence, and carries no tense or aspect, typically in the form with to, as in to run.
Define intransitive verb
A verb that does not take an object. Ex. She won.
