Module 7: IP SAN, FCoE, NVMe-OF (NVMe Over Fabrics Overview) Flashcards
What is NVMe?
Nonvolatile Memory express - computer to disk connectivity that is developed for NVM devices
How does NVMe work?
connects directly to embedded storage controller in motherboard - not PCIe - allows for maximum performance
How many ques can NVMe handle?
65,535 ques and 65,536 que commands
What is a limitation of native NVMe?
can’t connect to NVM storage devices outside of the server
What is NVMe Over Fabrics?
enables the NVMe protocol to be transported over FC or other protocols
What speed does NVMe-OF run on FC?
Atleast 32gbs - allows NVMe commands to travel directly through the fabric without needing FC-4 SCSI protocol layer
What is NAND?
type of nonvolatile flash memory - does not require continuous power to retain stored data (EX: USB)
What is Storage Class Memory (SCM)?
type of NAND flash device - includes powerback to ensure data won’t be lost if power is removed
Why is a power backup required in SCM devices?
since SCM uses standard DIMM as cache in front of persistent NAND to enhance performance,
What is the naming convention for NVMe OF addressing?
NQN
