Module 7 Flashcards
Prokaryotes
No uncles or membrane organelles
Ribosomes
Can be found in the cytoplasm of the cell in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, also can be attached to the rough ER.
Cell wall
May contain lipid molecules. Plants and fungi have cell walls.
Golgi apparatus
Organelle and eukaryotes. Modify, store, and ship products of the ER
Eukaryotes
Organelle membranes and has nucleus
Cilia
Short hair appendage on the cell surface. Move fluids and particles across the cell surface. It can be found on eukaryote cells.
Vesicles
Membrane sac in the cytoplasm of eukaryotes cells used to isolate and transport materials. Some fuse with ER and golgi, allowing them to empty contents
Cell membrane
Some cells can cross and some cannot. Double layer of phospholipids in which proteins, and sometimes sterol carbohydrates, are embedded
Nucleus
Means “center”. DNA is in the nucleus
Nuclear envelope
Double layer membrane surrounding the nucleus of the cell. also nuclear membrane
Vacuoles
Contains mostly water that is found in the cytoplasm. Specialized mainly for storage.
Cytoplasm
Fills the inside contents of a cell between the plasma membrane and nucleus.
Nucleoid region
Region in the cytoplasm of a prokaryotic cell where DNA is stored.
Mitochondria
Powerhouse cell. Makes ATP
Cytoskeleton
Scaffold for cell structure and a framework for movement and cell division.
