Module 3 Flashcards
Chemical bonds
Attractions between atoms that hold atoms and molecules together.
Hydrogen bonds
Interaction with partially positive hydrogen atom and partially negative atom with an unshared pair of electrons.
Neutron
Neutral charge that is contained in the nucleus and has a mass of 1 atomic mass unit.
Covalent bonds
Sharing of electrons. Negatively charged between atoms, the number of covalent bonds that can form is dictated by the number of unpaired electrons in the outer shell.
Ionic bonds
Attraction between a positive and negative ion. No electrons sharing occurs in the bond. Transferred from one atom to another.
Proton
Positively charged that is contained in the nucleus and a mass of 1 atomic mass unit.
Electronegative
Holds more shared electrons close.
Electrons
Negatively charged partial that occupies shells surrounding the nucleus and has a mass that is small.
