Module 23 Flashcards
Consumer
Humans and animals. Absorb food molecules derived from bodies of other organisms
Energy pyramid
A diagram that shows how energy flows from tropic level to another in ecosystems
Secondary consumers
Can be carnivore or omnivores. Consume or feed off primary consumers
Biogeochemical cycle
Process that transfers chemical elements between biotic and abiotic components in an ecosystem.
Decomposed
Bacteria and fungi that colonize dead material and absorb food molecules for it
Nitrogen cycle
Cycle where nitrogen moves through ecosystems, bacteria plays multiple roles.
Trophic level 1
Composed of producers that form the base of ecosystems. Organisms in level 1 are eaten by 2, organisms in 2 are eaten by 3, organism in level 3 are eaten by 4.
Detritivore
Animals that feed from dead materials. Some eat dead animals.
Producers
Light energy from the sun and do not consume other living organisms
Water cycle
Water moves between the ocean, atmosphere, glaciers, soil, and fresh water
Carbon cycle
Carbon flows between the ecosystem, atmosphere, water, and land.
Primary consumer
Consume or feed on plants. **herbivores
Primary consumer
Consume or feed on plants. **herbivores
