Module# 6: Stoichiometry Flashcards
Stoichiometry
Relating the quantities of different substances in a chemical equation
Limiting reactants
The reactant that runs out first, stopping the entire reaction
Stoichiometric Coefficients
The number that appear to the left of each substance
Gay-Lussac’s Law
The stoichiometric coefficients in a chemical equation relate the volumes (in liters) of gasses in the equation as well as the number of moles of substances in the equation
When can Gay-Lussac’s law be implemented in stoichiometry?
Gay-Lussac’s law can be used in stoichiometry only if everything you are using in the problem is gas
Molecular Formula
A chemical formula that provides the number of each type of atom in a molecule
Empirical Formula
A chemical formula that tells you a simple, whole-number ratio for the atoms in a molecule
Molar Mass
The mass of one mole of a given compound
