MODULE 6 Flashcards
Separation of components of samples in solution through their selective interaction with and retention by a solid, particulate sorbent.
SOLID PHASE EXTRACTION
The cartridge is flushed through with sample solvent to remove impurities and to ensure that the sample solution will properly wet the surface
of the sorbent particles.
SORBENT CONDITIONING
The sample solution is passed through the cartridge with the object of either retaining the analytes of interest whilst matrix component pass through or retaining the matrix components whilst analytes pass through.
SAMPLE LOADING OR RETENTION
Remove all components not retained by the
sorbent during the retention step which may
remain trapped in the interstitial solvent.
RINSING
Final step to recover retained analytes
ELUTION
Important variation of SPE, known as
SOLID PHASE MICROEXTRACTION
