May block glutamate
ADR: Teratogenic
Topiramate
Drug For Primary GTCS in adults and children <6 years old For juvenile myoclonic and partial seizure
Levetiracetam
Drug that Decreases the neuronal activity and increases the seizure threshold
Primidone
1,5 benzodiazepine, enhances inhibitory effect of GABA by increasing permeability of chloride ions
Clobazam
It is the Continuous state of Seizure
Medical emergency when the a seizure hits the five minute mark
Status Epilepticus
OCCURENCE OF Status Epilepticus
Children under 15 years old who have seizures brought on by high fever
Adults over 40 (Will more likely experience stroke)
Causes of Status Epilepticus
- Low blood sugar
- HIV
- Head Trauma
- Heavy Alcohol or Drug use
- Kidney or Liver failure

- Blood Chemistry
- Urinalysis
- CT scan
- Chest Xray
PRE-HOSPITAL CARE for Status Epilepticus
Check for ABCs
* Airway
* Breathing
* Circulation
* Diazepam may be administered (IV) or per rectum
