Module 4 - 4.2.2 E.m.f. and P.d. Flashcards
Electromotive Force (Definition)
E.m.f is the energy per unit charge being transferred from another form into electrical energy
Electromotive Force (Energy)
Components provide energy that pushes the current around a circuit
Potential Difference (Definition)
P.d. is the energy per unit charge being transferred from electrical energy into another form
Potential Difference (Energy)
Components have work done to them by the current
When an electron is accelerated by a voltage
it gains energy equal to eV (= 1/2 mv^2)
Series: Potential Difference
Splits over each component
Parallel: Potential Difference
Same across each branch
Resistance of voltmeters
very large so only a small current will go through it
