Module 3 - 3.2.2 Motion with Non-Uniform Acceleration Flashcards
1
Q
Drag
A
Opposes the motion of an object through a fluid
2
Q
Factors Affecting Drag
A
- velocity (drag ∝ velocity^2)
- cross sectional area of the object
- density of the fluid
3
Q
Forces on a Parachutist
A
- initially accelerates (weight is greater than drag)
- drag increases as it accelerates
- drag eventually equals weight (resultant force = 0)
- object continues to fall at terminal velocity
Parachute Opens
- sudden increase in drag
- resultant force acts upwards - speed decreases
- drag decreases as velocity decreases
- object reaches new terminal velocity
