8
Q

Explain the lock and key mechanism.

A

Each enzyme has a different shaped active site. Only one specific substrate molecule can fit into that active site. Once the substrate molecule has fit itself in, it is changed and the reaction is catalysed.

16
Q

How can mutation be harmful?

A

Important enzymes that are needed for reactions in the body may not be produced.

17
Q

How can a mutation be beneficial?

A

It can bring survival benefits, evolution is based on genetic mutation.

18
Q

List 3 ways mutation can occur?

A

1) Spontaneously
2) Use of mutagens or carcinogens
3) Exposure to ionising radiation
