Module 3 - Reseatch design and Quality criteria Flashcards
Reliability
Are measures consistent? Concerns quality of the measurement instrument.
Replicability
Capability to repeat the study:
Able to repeat the study?
Does it yield the same results?
Measurement validity
Does the measurement capture the true meaning of the concept?
Internal validity
Measures causality → Does the independent variable (X) really influence the dependent variable (Y)?
External validity
Concerns generalisability → Can the results be generalised beyond the specific research context?
Ecological validity
Do the conclusions of the research hold in the real world?
Naturalism
Style of research that seeks to minimise the intrusion of artificial methods of data collection.
Reliability in QLR (qualitative research)
Dependability → Are the findings likely to apply at other times?
Measurement & Internal validity in QLR
Credibility → How believable are the findings?
External validity in QLR
Transferability → Do the findings apply to other contexts?
