Uniform resource locator (URL)
An address that identifies the location of the page on the internet
Consists of the protocol, server address, pathname, domain name, webpage file name (see picture)
Blogs
Informal websites with time-stamped articles or posts, in a diary or journal format
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)
The most common way to transfer information around the web, to retrieve the page.
Web server
Delivers webpages to computers requesting the pages through a browser
IP address
Unique number that consists of four sets of numbers from 0 to 255 separated by periods or dots e.g, 68.89.156.255
Domain name
Identifies one or more IP addresses
Address bar
Where URL is displayed in the search bar
Cache
Copy of each pahe uou view
Breadcrumbs
The path you followed to display the webpage
Navigation bar
Include buttons such as back and forward the you can use to revisit the webpages along breadcrumb path
Top-level domain (TLD)
Three letter extension after the period, such as .com

Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)
Sets standards that allow devices, services and applications to work together across the internet, e.g, sets standards for IP addresses, rerouting data, securing websites, etc.
World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
Consists of 100s of organizations and experts that work together to write web standards
Content aggregator
Site such as News360 gathere, organizes and then distributes web content.
As a subscriber, you choose the type of content you wantcand receive updates when new content is available
Media sharing site
Site such as YouTube or Flickr
You can manage media such as photos, videos and music and share them with other site members
Online social network
Social networking or social media site
You share your interests, ideas, stories, photos, music and videos online with other registered users
In most, you can also communicate through text, voice and video chat
Wel portal/Portal
Website that combines pages from many sources and provides access to those pages
