provides a SYSTEMATIC FORMAT for condensing and ORGANIZING notes
without LABORIOUS RECOPYING
3 PARTS of CORNELL METHOD:
- Main space for taking down notes ( center-right corner)
- Left hand space for labelling each ideas with keywords or CUES
- Bottom space for summaries
ADVANTAGES of CORNELL METHOD
- Organized and systematic for recording
- simple and efficient
- best for pulling out major concepts and ideas
- less time and effort
DISADVANTAGES of CORNELL METHOD
- in any lecture situations
OUTLINING Method
Dash or indented outlining is best for SCIENCE CLASSES such as Physics or Math
Advantage of OUTLINING Method
Well-organized system if done right. / records content as well as relationships. / reduces editing and easy to review
Disadvantage of OUTLINING Method
Requires more thought in class for accurate organization.
MAPPING METHOD
uses comprehension/concentration skills and evolves in a note taking form which relates each fact or idea to every other fact or idea.
Mapping is a graphic
representation of the content of a lecture.
Advantage of MAPPING Method
This format helps you to visually track your lecture regardless of conditions. Little thinking is needed and relationships can easily be seen.
Disadvantage of MAPPING Method
You may not hear changes in content from major points to facts
