Explain what national board certification is.
Teachers are eligible for National Board certification if they have a bachelors degree and have successfully completed three years of teaching in a public or private school. Those who volunteer to be assed for NBpts certification prepare a portfolio based on analyses of videotaped segments of teaching and take a test of content knowledge for the area in which they seek to be certified. Once obtained board certification is good for 10 years. The NBPTS offers certification in 25 areas of specialization in PK-12 teaching, including special education.

National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.(NBPTS) An Organization that reviews representative work of experienced teachers to determine whether their work merits their gaining board certification as accomplished teachers
No Child Left Behind ACT
Part of IDEA NCLB sets high standards and accountability for student achievement to make sure that all children are caught up to 21st century learning.
National Reform Goals: Academic Accountability. States develop proficiency standards for math and reading
High Qualified Teachers: NCLB provides funding for teachers to become better teachers. NCLB also mandates that all teachers should be licensed to teach hold at least a bachelors degree and be highly qualified in the subject they are teaching.
Adequate yearly Progress (Ayp): Minimum benchmark that each student and district should meet. Schools that meet their AYP goals are rewarded and schools that do not make their AYP goals 2 years in a row are labeled “in need of improvement.

New Version of NCLB. Makes sure every school provides a quality education for every student.
