B.F. Skinner
Devloped the Behavioral Theory which focused on outward behavior, which suggests that students could be successfully trained and conditioned to learn just about anything a teacher desired.

Robert Havighurst
Developmental Tasks Theory – believed that there are specific developmental tasks that children must master if they are to develop normally. Teachable moments that deliver peak efficiency for the acquisition of specific concepts and skills.
Jean Piaget
Developed the Cognitive Development Theory. WIth this theory the way children think is fundamentally different from the way that adults think. Children learn facts in, concepts and principals in 4 major stages (sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operations and formal operations ).
Jerome Bruner
Constructivist Theory- Postulated a series of developmental stages that he believes children encounter as they mature
(action, imagery and symbolism) .
Developing personal meaning through hands on activity, students are provide opportunity to construct meaning through critical thinking and big ideas. Students have the freedom to infer their own answers.
Benjamin Bloom
Was the author of the Taxonomy of Educational Objectives- One can predict learning outcomes by assessing 3 factors:
Cognitive entry behaviors of a student (the extent the pupil has mastered prerequisite skills.),
the effective entry characteristics (the student’s interest in learning the material),
and the quality of instruction (the degree in which the instruction offered is appropriate of the learner).

Vocational Education- He believed If he devoted all his efforts to improving vocational education he could greatly improve the plight of the African American
Booker T. Washington
One of the the early African American educators who contributed to the development of the united states education system. Believed African American children need education to compete in society. Founded the Tuskegee Institute in 1880. It provided basic and industrial education in the early years and gradually expanded to provide a wider of college curriculum.
Maria Montessori
Montessori Method of education: Uses child furniture and specifically designed learning materials to emphasize independent work by children under the guidance of a trained teacher. Montessori schools are still around today.
Ella Flagg Young
Earned he doctorate at age 50. She was a student of John Dewey. Became the superintendent of CPS in 1909. was elected the first female president of the National Education Association. Included vocational and physical training in the school curricula, improved teacher training for recognition of teaching as a profession and broadened teacher responsibility.

Progressivism- Children’s experiences would be cultivated to learn about the world through reading writing hypothesizing, testing and tackling real issues that impact their lives.
