what affects our health
health determinants refer to factors that raise or lower the level of health in an individual or population
it explain and predict trends in health and explain why some individual and groups have better or worse outcomes than others
some determinants can be altered (behaviour) and some cannot (age, genetics)

mindfullness
education
social determinants of health
SDH are economic and social conditions the influence the health of people and communities
these conditions are shaped by the amount of money, per, and resources that people have, all of which are influenced by policy choices
factors related to health outcomes
how a person develops during their first few years of health (early childhood development) how much education a person has being able to get and keep a jog hot kind of work a person does having food or being able to get food having access to health services and the quality of those services sousing status how much money a person earns discrimination and social support
why and how does the social gradient affect health
poorer social or economic circumstances= greater the risk of poor health= higher rates of illness, disability and premature death , lives shorter lives than those more socially and economically advantaged
barriers to addressing SDH
upstream factors: international influences, government policies and the fundamental social, physical, economic and environmental determinants of health
midstream factors: nutrion/diet, smoking, physical inactivity, mental health and depression
downstream factors: biological, physiological reactions to all of these influences. ( morbidity, morality, quality of life and life expectancy)
climate change
increases in greenhouse gas emissions secondary to human activity have led to long term changes in climate of the planet
outcome of climate change
water quality and quantity
food security
control of infectious disease
protection from disasters
