Who set up the NHS in 1948?
A Labour government. The minister for health, Aneurin Bevan, was the architect of the NHS.
What was the significance of the NHS being set up?
By the 1960s, there were hospitals all throughout the UK. Healthcare is now more accessible and is “free” at the point of use.
What are hospitals like now and why?
Clean, sophisticated & highly regulated; high-tech due to the acceptance of aseptic procedures, better technology and increasingly better training of staff.

GPs, dentists, ambulance services and health visitors to the home.
How was surgery’s progress boosted during WW1?
There was massive progress in setting broken bones and performing blood transfusions.
