Mitosis Flashcards
Mitosis
Is cell division in body cells and results in two daughter cells, having identical the parent nucleus’s. 2 daughter
What does mitosis do
Mitosis is the replication of damaged cells, organism growth and asexual reproduction.
Mitosis stages (IPMATC)
- Interphase
- Prophase
- Metaphase
- Anaphase
- Telophase
- Cytokinesis
remember IPMATC
Interphase
prepares the cell for division by obtaining nutrients/growing and replicating its DNA.
Prophase
The nuclear membrane disappears.
Chromatin condenses into visible chromosomes
Metaphase
Spindles equally divides the genetic material in a cell, form and attach to chromosome centromeres.
Anaphase
Spindles shorten causing chromosomes to split into sister chromatids.
pulled to opposite ends of the cell.
Telophase (around set.
The nuclear membrane reforms around each set of chromatids.
Cytokinesis form sis (same number)
sister chromitids form thus having the same number of chromosomes as the one before.
Mitosis length cycle time
24hr
Why is Mitosis asexual
Mitosis does not reproduce sex cells unlike meiosis.
