DNA Replication Flashcards
DNA CODE (single strand)
Is the name given to the sequence of bases on a single strand of DNA.
What does DNA Code do
Three sequential bases form a codon. Each codon codes for a specific amino acid.
Amino acids are
Amino acids are the building blocks for
proteins.
Genome (20%)
Genes make up less than 20% of the genome. genome control how genes are turned off/on.
Replicating DNA (NEW CELL)
DNA replicates itself every time a new cell is made.
What happens during Replication (CHROMOSOMES)
DNA in chromosomes copies itself identically, this is called replication.
Three steps of DNA Replication
initiation, elongation, and termination.
Initiation (UNTWISTS)
DNA strand/double helix untwist breaking bonds.
Elongation (GROUPING)
DNA untwist thus grouping it into two groups by nucleotides.
Termination (REPLACEMENT
Is the replacement of the double helix by combing the two groups into one.
