Evolution Flashcards
Evolution
genetic change in the characteristics of a species over many generations leading to the formation of a new species.
LAMARCK’S THEORY OF
EVOLUTION
Lamarck believed animal’s bodies changed as they used them in different ways.
DARWIN’S THEORY OF
EVOLUTION
organisms possess variation which led to some being more likely to survive and reproduce than others.
HOMOLOGOUS STRUCTURES
structures are similar physical features in organism that share a common ancestor.
ANALOGOUS STRUCTURES
Are features of different species that are
similar in function but not necessarily in structure.
ARTIFICIAL SELECTION
is the process of humans choosing to breed organisms with desirable characteristics.
VARIATION
Is different genetic traits.
Sexual selection
same as artificial selection but for animals
NATURAL SELECTION
is the differential survival and reproduction of individuals due to differences in phenotype.
