Misuse of Drugs Act 1971
Q: What are controlled drugs?
Any substance or product specified in Parts 1, 2 or 3 of Schedule 2 of the Act
This Schedule lists the most commonly used drugs and classifies them according to their potential effects on both the person taking it and society in general.
Q: What are Class A drugs?
Class A drugs listed in part 1 of the Schedule fall into 2 groups:
1. Narcotics- such as heroin, opium, and cocaine
2. Hallucinogens- LSD, ecstasy, and crystal meth

Class B drugs listed in part 2 of the Schedule include: cannabis, cannabis resin, cannabis oil, codeine and Ritalin
Q: What are Class C drugs?
Class C drugs listed in part 3 of the Schedule include: diazepam, Valium and GHB

S37 of 1971 Act- cannabis, except in the express cannabis resin, means any plant of the genus cannabis or any part of any such plant by whatever name designated except that it does not include cannabis resin or any of the following products after separation from the rest of the plant namely
(a) Mature stalk of any such plant
(b) Fibre produced from mature stalk of any such plant
(c) Seed of any such plant

Cannabis resin means the separated resin where the crude or purified obtained from any plant of the genus cannabis.
