Q: What does s30 PACE contain?
s30 PACE requires that a person who has been arrested must be taken to a police station as soon as practicable after arrest, unless the arrested person has bailed prior to arrival at the police station.
Q: What is a designated police station?
PACE requires that a person who is detained or is likely to be detained for more than 6 hours must go to a designated police station.
This is one that has sufficient facilities for the purpose of detaining arrested people.
Q: What does s35 PACE add?
Requires Chief of Police to designate sufficient police stations in their area to deal with prisoners for long periods of time and has at least 1 full-time custody officer.
Police stations can be designated permanently or for any specified periods, provided that they are not designated simply for part of a day.
