Q

Plasma ammonia concentration after L-asparaginase therapy in 27 dogs with high-grade lymphoma or leukemia
jvecc 2018

A

Subclinical hyperammonemia in dogs w/ lymphoma or leukemia is after L-spar is common

How?

  1. Asparagine deaminated by asparaginase into ammonia + aspartic acid –> ammonia accumulate in plasma
  2. Asparaginase also has glutaminase activity to metabolize glutamine into glutamic acid + ammonia
