British lawyer drew line in 1947 over 5 weeks
time to pass power went from 5 years to 4 months
tried to use religion to split, but religion is integrated
IMPACTS
- Sikhs separated from holy sites now in Pakistan
-lots of nationalism
- forced migration once border was drawn

US AND MEXICO BORDER
fought a war in 1846-8, Mexico lost a lot of land
US manifest destiny meant they believed USA should stretch coast to coast

1884, divided Africa into areas for European powers to own
Rwanda
(Tutsis and Hutus)
- Tutsis favoured by Belgian colonisers
- Once Belgian colonial rule ended, Hutus took control in 1962
- Resentment between the two groups ultimately led to the genocide of 800000 Tutsis in 1994
