Nitrate

A

MoA and CSs-
Acute-GI irritation, nitrate is reduced to nitrite. Nitrite causes oxidation of ferrous iron of hemoglobin to ferric iron and formation of methemoglobin. Resp insufficiency signs d/t inability of blood to carry O2. Fetal methemoglobinemia and death causing abortion :(

Chronic-decrease progesterone during pregnancy and abortion, reduced performance

Plants-pigweed, oats, johnsongrass, sudan grass, milo, corn, maize, beet, lamb’s quarters, sweet clover, alfalfa, wheat, sunflower
