- As a component of bones and teeth
- Involved in blood clotting muscle contraction and sending messages in the nervous system
What does the deficiency of calcium lead to?
Children: Rickets
Elderlies: Osteoporosis
What are the symptoms of rickets?
- Have soft bones
- Legs will bend under the weight of the body
- Children will not grow to normal height
Why do elderlies have osteoporosis?
Calcium is lost from bones
-Loss in bone mass
Where can calcium be found?
Canned sardines, milk, dairy products, tofu, green vegetables(spinach)
What is iron?
A component of haemoglobin
What is haemoglobin
A molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen around the body
What does the deficiency of iron lead to?
Anaemia
What are the symptoms of anaemia?
Faint easily
-Not enough haemoglobin in red blood cells to carry oxygen to the brain
Where can iron be found in?
Beef, liver, beans, cabbage, spinach
